I am surprised to find that there are no listings for the Herring Family within this collection. West & Charity Herring were wed in NC in 1828 and entered the newly-opened Alabama Territory in Barbour County. A son, Stephen, married Elizabeth Caroline Turner (des. of Noel Turners & Wm. Williams), and relocated his family in Henry County following the Civil War. Two of Stephen's brothers died in the war, Lewis Grad (Georgia) & Jackson (Virginia). Stephen & Emanuel survived. Emanuel is buried in Culp Cem..Stephen & Caroline named one of their sons Louis Jackson, for Stephen's fallen brothers. Louis Jackson married Pauline Whitehead, dau. of John Whitehead & Rachel Kirkland. "Jack" & Pauline entered Geneva County and had a large family, 7 m & 3 f. Both died in Geneva, he in 1941; she in '49. Their youngest child was named Louis Jackson Herring, Jr., and he was my father. LJ II is buried in Port St. Joe, Florida. I have some information on this family and have posted it on Ancestry.com. See Rod Herring, 3 Sept 1946. I would love to learn more!

I am trying to trace my family roots and I have strong suspicion that my ancestors were in Henry County during the early years. I would greatly appreciate any help that you might offer. I did find that Dempsey Fennell purchase something at an estate sale for Richard Horn in 1829 in Henry County. I dont know any of the details about that purchase. Later, I found a probate record for Dempsey Fennell showing he died in 1833. The same file showed Michael Fennell died in 1841. I would like to know there relationship. Perhaps brothers or father and son? I found Marriage records for Perry Fennell (1846) and Cader Fennell (1843), presumeabley all related. Perry and Cader were born in the Carolinas during the early 1820's according to later Census data. Cader moved to Georgia, but Perry stayed in Henry County and is probably burried there.

Rachel Renfroe (b. 4 Apr 1776) married Ephraim Ellis (b. 30 Jun 1774) in Georgia. They moved to Henry County after 1820, but I don't have the date. They both died in Henry County. I have not been able to find Rachel's parents. I think she must have been related to the Renfroe's in Henry County before 1820. Can anyone give me information?

Hello,
Does anyone know where I can purchase a copy of the Watford Family Book. It was originally written by James Horace Coulliette and revised by Margaret Josephine Phillips in 1986. I understand that Mr. Coulliette is deceased and the telephone number that I was able to find for Ms. Phillips has been disconected. My cousin who lives in Dothan has a copy of both books and I was able to look through it this weekend. It contains a treasure of information for my ancestry, the Joseph Watford line. I would very much like to purchase my own copies of one or both books. I appreciate any information that you can give. Thank you, Pam

I had been following Steve's efforts to 'save' the cemetery at Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church as several of my ancestors were buried there. Did anyone take up the cause after he passed? Does anyone know the present status of the cemetery? Thanks for any information.

I am looking for the Farmer Family. I was told of a cemetery near the old town of Franklin, that has a lot of Farmers buried in it. I was told that it may be on Old River road? Can anyone help with name and a location?

Hi,
I think I may have a pre-1830 family, my ancestors, to add to the site. Lewis Shepard in 1830 (1830 AL Census of Henry County), under forty and over thirty, is residing with two boys under five and one under ten, one girl under five and one under ten, and a [wife] over 20 and under 30, and two female slaves according to a site that I did not document well - all I have is this information: "from The “Southern District of Alabama”; p. 635 320." There is no data on where this family originated. Additionally, Lewis Shepherd b. ~1795/8 (South Carolina) Elizabeth ____ ~1802 In the 1830 Census, a Lewis “SHEPARD” aged betw 30 and 40 is living in Henry, AL with 2 boys and 1 girl under five, 1 boy and one girl betw five and ten, and a wife under 30. This is the first documented appearance we have found of Lewis Shepherd (Sheppard, Shepard), born in SC, living in AL, with a child the right age to be John F. (my direct and substantiated great-grandfather, who served as a Confederate soldier in an Alabama regiment. Have not yet determined which one - several Alabama John Sheppards fought in the Civil War and the spellings are all over the place.) I don't know what further step to take to have this family name added to this web site or whether that is even appropriate. Please let me know what next to do. I am most interested in tracing immigrants to Alabama in this time period from South Carolina, as a step in establishing my South Carolina origins. Thanks for all assistance! Kathy Sheppard, Columbia S.C. Daughter of Bruce Alton Sheppard, b1920, Chickasaw/Florala, AL Son of Noah Harris Sheppard, b. 1873, FL, and Ida Horne (Whittle), d. 1955, Florala AL Son of John F. Sheppard, b. 1831, AL (place unknown) Son of Lewis Sheppard, b. 1795/8, SC (place unknown)
