| Carter, James | 1819 | A James Carter is included on the 1819 Conecuh County, Alabama Tax List. He had no slaves, no sales of merchandise, and no "wheels of pleasure." One white poll (i.e., person eligible to vote) was enumerated for the household. There are four Carters in a succession ending with James. The others are Jesse, William, and Hiram. It is quite likely that all these men were related. Caution: James Carter is a fairly common name, and so, there is a reasonable probability that this man was someone other than the Henry County pioneer James Carter. Note: There is also a James Carter, Jr. on the 1819 Conecuh County tax list. | 1819 Conecuh County, Alabama Tax List |
| Carter, James | 1829 | Sarah, James and Winifred Carter's daughter, was born in Henry County in 1829. James was born in 1777 in North Carolina. Winifred, James' second wife, was born in 1805 in North Carolina. | THE HISTORY OF HENRY COUNTY, by Mrs. Marvin Scott, 1961, page 189. |
| Carter, James | 1861 | There is an estate case for a James Carter dated 1861. The contents of the estate case file have not been researched. | Henry County, Alabama Estate Case Files Index. |
