I suspect his last name is Jernigan. Early recordkeeping and spelling in Henry CO was atrocious.

"Stephen enrolled as Johnagin for his service in the Creek War of 1836 and used the name of Johnakin for his bounty land warrants. On his first land patent it states, "Stephen Johnakin who served under the name of Stephen Johnagin". " I found the record at BLM GRO under any name at all but I am pretty sure his name was likely Jernigan. I used to live next door to some Jernigans and it's a southern name. Again, misspellings of names were common. When a southern accent is added to a different name pronunciation, it made it more difficult for recordkeepers "back then" to spell a name correctly. I'm always amazed at how many different spellings of some names exist in records.
