Hello, my name is Jim Chumney.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm descended from Pre-1830 Henry County Pioneers John A. Chumney, Milly Watts, Constantine Newton, Humphrey H. Pelham (Pellum), and possibly others.

I've been beating my head against a brick wall with John A. Chumney and Milly Watts for over ten years. I hope that learning more about their early Henry County neighbors and associates will lead to John's and Milly's origins. Along the way, I fell in love with early Henry County history and inhabitants during my three years researching the early pioneers (Steve Elliott's passion was contagious). Many of the pioneers are now old friends. I enjoy learning and discovering more about them.

My hope is that the Henry County Pioneers website will acquire a life of its own -- growing, improving, evolving, and delighting forever.

I want to say a thousand & one "thank you's" for helping me to set up the page for my 4th-great-grandfather, Mathew Jackson. As his descendant, I want to give him the recognition whenever possible....and you made this possible. Thank you for doing so...and for the wonderful job you do on this website.

My name is Michael Bennett and I live in Valdosta, Georgia. My great, great, great grandfather is Colonel James Bennett who is one of the early pioneers of Henry County (moved there in 1817). I have a picture of him which I can post if you would like. I just discovered your website last night and really appreciate you putting this together. I spent a day last week riding around Henry County and in Fort Gaines (marveling at James Coleman's collection which I'm sure you have seen). I, too, love the history surrounding Henry County and Fort Gaines. I have been looking for years trying to find a picture of the "Bennett Mansion" which I am told burnt down sometime around the civil war (might have been those carpetbaggers from up north). I'm told a picture exists but might been buried somewhere in the University of Auburn archives. If you happen to stumble across the picture or have anymore information on the Bennett's then please let me know. Thanks!
